Internet Explorer 8 Shortcuts

   1 Basic Navigation and Address Bar

alt+homeGo to Home webpage.
alt+arrow right/ alt+arrow leftGo to next / previous webpage.
alt+d or f6Jump to address bar. f6 additionally navigates through window elements.
ctrl+enterComplete a .com address in address bar: adds "http://" prefix and a ".com"-suffix, then loads the webpage.
ctrl+shift+enterComplete an URI in address bar with user-defined suffix: adds "http://" prefix and suffix (e.g. .net, .org, .de, ...), then loads the webpage. Set the suffix in tools:options (alt+t, then o), languages (alt+l), and enter to suffix field at bottom.
alt+arrow down or f4Open webpages visited in the past when in address bar. Includes Favorites and History. Navigate with arrow keys and enter to visit.
delete orshift+deleteDelete past visited webpages from address bar history (also see shortcut above).

   2 Tabbed Browsing main

ctrl+tOpen new tab in same window.
ctrl+kDuplicate current tab.
ctrl+tab /ctrl+shift+tabJump to next / jump to previous browser tab.
ctrl+wClose the current tab.
ctrl+shift+tRestore closed tab (open previously closed tab).
ctrl+qShow Tabs: Open or close quick tab view.
ctrl+shift+qShow Tabs: Open list of tabs. Then use arrow keys and enter to select or escape to exit.
ctrl+1 ... ctrl+9Jump to browser tab 1 - 9.
On Link: ctrl+ left mouse buttonOpen link in new background tab (sometimes link is opened in new window; as an alternative, use right mouse button and press w).
alt+enterOpen typed webpage address in new background tab.

   3 Navigate Webpages in IE8

arrow down /arrow upScroll down / scroll up inside a webpage.
page up / page downJump one page down / jump one page up (space / shift+spaceworks as well).
home / endMove to the beginning or end of a document.
ctrl++ / ctrl+-Increase text size / decrease text size (zoom in and out).
ctrl+0Reset text size to default (zoom to 100%).
tab / shift+tabMove forward / move backwards through items on a webpage. Press and hold tab button to skip through multiple links.
shift+f10When on link: Display a context menu for a link.
enterActivate a selected link.
tab / shift+tab, and enter orspaceIn web forms: move forward / move backwards through form items. Press space to activate action buttons, select boxes, or radio buttons.
ctrl+aSelect all content on webpage.
f5 or ctrl+rRefresh the current webpage.
ctrl+f5Refresh the current webpage with cache override.
f7Turn caret browsing on or off (movable cursor on page).
escStop loading webpage.

   4 Favorites, History and Search

ctrl+iOpen Favorites box.
ctrl+shift+iOpen Favorites box in pinned mode.
ctrl+hOpen History box.
ctrl+shift+hOpen History in pinned mode.
ctrl+jOpen Feeds.
ctrl+shift+jOpen Feeds in pinned mode.
ctrl+ left mouse clickIn the History or Favorites boxes, open link as background tab.
ctrl+dAdd the current webpage to favorites.
ctrl+bOpen the Organize Favorites dialog box. Use tab to navigate and alt andshift+alt to move items up or down in list.
ctrl+f or f3Open find window. Press escape to exit.

   5 main for Privacy Settings

ctrl+shift+fTurn in-private filtering on or off (watch icon change in status bar)
ctrl+shift+pOpen private browsing window / incognito mode.
ctrl+shift+deleteOpen 'Delete Browsing History' Menu.

   6 Manage IE8 Windows

alt+spaceOpens the title bar menu.
alt+space+enterRestore Window (default Windows feature).
alt+space+xMaximize Window (default Windows feature).
alt+space+nMinimize Window (default Windows feature).
f11Turn full page view on or off (default Windows feature).
f6Move forward between window elements.
ctrl+nOpen a new browser window.
f4Close IE8 Window.

   7 Instant Search

ctrl+eJump to the Instant Search box (box on top right corner of browser window).
ctrl+arrow downView list of search providers.
alt+enterOpen search results in new tab.

   8 The Rest

alt+pPrint the current webpage.
f12Open Developer Tools.
ctrl+o orctrl+lOpen location.
alt+v+cView webpage source in default editor (used to be ctrl+u but that was discontinued).
f1Display Internet Explorer Help or to display context Help about an item in a dialog box.
